Overall Conclusion-
These 11 stages are used in a certain order to ensure
that a crime can be investigated properly and correctly. These stages are set
out in a certain order because they follow on to each other one by one and this
allows the investigation to flow without them having to do side steps or go
through different steps. It is set out in a certain order so that it is like a
plan they must follow and by following the plan the investigation becomes more
organised. Most of the stages are for collecting as much evidence and links as
possible and also analysing the information. The first stage is the initial
response this starts of the investigation because it is the signal someone
gives to the police to start the search for evidence and information. Then from
this it flows through to investigating the scene, questioning witnesses and
finding information. If then flows into making links with people and seeing if
any patterns can be identified. It then goes through to finally making a prosecution
to someone and taking the evidence to court. The most significant stages are the
initial response, the gathering and analysing facts and the presentation of
evidence in court. The initial response is significant because it starts of the
criminal investigation and without this stage, none of the other stages would
occur. The next most significant stage is gathering and analysing the facts, in
this stage it is were an overall analysis is made of all the evidence and
information collected throughout other stages. This overall analysis can enable
the criminal to be found out. The final
stage is significant as it rounds up the whole investigation and once the
evidence is given to court the right criminal would be prosecuted. All of the
stages have a part of significance in the investigation because they all follow
in order to find out the criminal who is guilty of committing the crime.
In my case the most important stage was the initial
response as when the police were called Sion Jenkins was questioned straight
away but his answers weren’t wrote down so there was no exact evidence on him
from this. So because of this overlooked evidence he could have been wrongly
accused. Another part that was significant in my investigation was the
identifying patterns and links, at the time of my case this stage wasn’t investigated
into to. If this was investigated further in to at the time it would of meant
that a link would have been made with Idelia who had patterns on being a rapist
and targeting young girls. But this wasn’t researched into until much later
years and due to this Sion Jenkins could have been wrongly acquitted.
