Stage 6 Researching and analysing intelligence systems-
The main part of this stage is to research and find out
who is recently committing crimes round the area and if there is a certain
crime trend. The officers will need to get links with the main crime causers in
the area and identify whether they could be involved in this crime or not.
Their job is to provide strategies and tactics in order to find out
information, and it can be very useful information which can help them get
suspects or even solve the crime. For example if a child has gone missing
having intelligence in the area can help them analyse the area and see if it is
a specific place this abduction is occurring. This stage is important as it can
help investigate further into the crime if they have knowledge on the area or
on the community in that area. By doing this it can give them information on
certain characters in the area and can enable them to investigate if they are a
suspect of the current crime. This stage isn’t the most significant but it is
still significant because without it certain information wouldn’t be found out
and this information could help solve the crime. If the intelligence stage goes
wrong and a person who is known to be a shoplifter for example is wrongly
connected to the crime of a murder it can mean they will be charged guilty and
actually be un guilty. This is because the person could be blamed for
committing the crime even though the crimes they’ve committed in the past
aren’t related to this crime the officers are researching now. They could still get suspected if the
officers don’t use their intelligence wisely. The ethical issues with this
crime is that it isn’t fair to presume that someone who has murdered in the
past has murdered the person the officers are investigated because this is
against fairness to the people and everyone should get treated as individuals
and not murders and then normal people.
If press are involved and they do a report on a pass murder they think
have committed the new crime it could cause this person to try and escape and
then they can’t be questioned for further information. This can be used to make
the criminal investigation successful because by putting research into it more
evidence can be found out and this makes it easier to identify the criminal or
finding a suspect.
In my case there was a known rapist called Imelia and
he had 7 life sentences for raping and killing girls of a young age. He has a
girlfriend whos house was close to Billie-Jo’s and he was there at the time.
Billie-Jo had claimed she had a stalker and Imelia matches the description,
this happened months before the murder occurred. He was known to improvise
weapons with his murders and Billie-Jo was killed by a tent peg. By making
intelligent connections with people around the neighbourhood it enabled them to
find out information on another person that could be a suspect. But this person
was found out years after when Sion Jenkins claimed he was innocent. If this
information and this stage was done earlier it would of meant that Sion Jenkins
wouldn’t of been an acquittal of a guilty party.
