Stage
5 Investigating leads-
In
this part of the investigation leads are made with people to link the crime up
to a suspect or to find the criminal. This strategy is from forensics and the
evidence found in the scene is required to be looked at the officers can also
do house to house enquires. This is where they knock at people’s houses and ask
them questions relating to the crime. They can also use things such as CCTV to
see if anything has been caught to help them find the criminal. They get back
the results from the pathology and analyse that. This stage is important as it
allows them to analyse all the evidence collection they have found and make
connections with certain people to find out information. If this part isn't done it means an important part of evidence could be overlooked as if no links
are made with people the information won’t be found out. This could cause an
acquittal of a guilty party because this part of information that they don’t
find out could prove a person un guilty. This is a significant stage because it
is looking through all the evidence found and coming to a judgement of who the
suspect could be, and if the suspect is still not clear from this evidence
leads can be made to certain people who can give information to the officers to
help the process of finding the suspects or the killer. This stage will have a
range of ethical issues involved with it because by doing house to house
enquires it could affect people as they might have a young baby who is sleeping
and the issue would be if the baby was woken up. So to prevent ethical issues
house to house enquiries should happen at a certain time. If the person is
affected in any way shape or form it can be classed as an ethical issue and
this can cause an overlooking of evidence because if that person complains it
could mean that house to house enquiries have to be stopped and this means less
information will be found out. This stage can help make the investigation successful
because in this stage it enables a link to be made and any leads identified
which means more information can be found out towards helping the crime.
Getting as much information and evidence as possible means that it could be
solved quicker.
In
my case the first thing they analysed again was the Forensic evidence, which
was 158 microscopic spots of blood found of Sions clothing, they presumed this
was because he was the killer of Billie-jo and got the blood on him due to the
impact of hitting her. They then made links with his neighbour Peter Gaimster who
on the 3rd of march made a statement, he told the police that daughter A had
said the 25th of February ‘ You know I think I was outside with L when dad came
out’ this piece of information is crucial because if Sion came out when
Billie-Jo was present outside, it could have been the moment when he attacked
her. Then the officers made a link with Sion Jenkins wife and she told
the police information as they said that daughter A had volunteered more. Daughter A
said that Sion had ran down the stairs in a ‘funny mood’ and told the girls to
get into the car ‘quickly’ On the 4th of march Lois Jenkins gave
more information that Sion was cross at Billie for screaming at A over who
should do the painting. Then on the 7th of march another statement
was given by Lois saying that Sion had a
bad temper and violence towards them. He would hit the daughter with slippers
or stick. These statements were all given due to the fact that the officers
made a link with more people and investigated further.
